Castings Technology International Limited is looking for an experienced NDT Operative
to join their inspection team - Primarily, Qualification to Level 2 in DPI/FPI with experience
of Castings Inspection within the aerospace, nuclear or oil and gas industries is sought,
but Qualification in Radiography and especially Computed Radiography would be a
distinct advantage.

DPI/FPI Operator Duties Include

  • Visual inspection of castings by direct observation and use of visual aids including
    mirrors and video-scopes to detect surface defects
  • Non-Destructive examination using Fluorescent and Colour Contrast Dye Penetrants
    to reveal surface flaws
  • Preparing castings for inspection using various cleaning methods ensuring suitability
    for effective inspection
  • Routine control checks to validate the inspection process and verify equipment
    calibrations
  • Process castings through the Penetrant application and removal process
  • Assist in clearing excavations using penetrant inspection during the upgrade
    and repair process
  • Keeping computerised inspection records and archiving paper records
  • Evaluate the results and make accept/rejection decisions based on Customer
    Acceptance criteria
  • Interpret Specifications and assist in production of NDT Techniques for
    Level III approval
  • Assist in Audits and ensure continued compliance with the company's NDT
    Accreditations e.g. NADCAP and UKAS

Additional Duties (Dependent on Relevant Qualifications) Include

  • Non-Destructive Examination of Castings by Radiography using X-Rays
    to reveal internal discontinuities
  • Operating Computered Radiography System utilising Phosphor Imaging Plates
  • Load and unload film cassettes and process films, check radiographs against
    samples to ensure correct setup
  • Carry out control checks, Processor monitoring and verify equipment calibrations
  • Restock Darkroom cupboards and replenish processing solutions, housekeeping
    duties etc.
  • View and interpret radiographs produced both in-house and externally by
    subcontractor and evaluate results in respect to Customer Acceptance criteria

Experience/Skills Required Include

  • Qualification in Penetrant Testing to PCN Level 2 is prefered, however previously
    Qualified to ASNT or NAS410/EN4179 would be considered
  • Must have experience of inspection of castings within aerospace, nuclear or oil
    and gas industry
  • Must be willing to undergo relevant Company Based Re-Qualification to ASNT
    & NAS410
  • Willingness to undergo further training to gain Qualification in other methods
    where required
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Computer literacy and experience of Microsoft Office Suite applications would
    be desirable, but training will be provided
  • Good team worker but someone who can also work under own initiative

Desirable Additional Skills

  • Qualification in Radiography to PCN Level 2 or previously Qualified to ASNT
    or NAS410/EN4179 would be a distinct advantage
  • Magnetic Particle (MPI) Level 1 or 2 would also be an advantage
