Job Title: Phased Array Technician (with TOFD)

Location: Aberdeen or Hartlepool

Salary: £45,000 Basic, Overtime and Uplifts in addition

An exciting new role has come up for a Phased Array Technician, in this role you'll have the
opportunity to deliver on-site phased array and time of flight diffraction (TOFD) inspection
services for our UK operation, taking a lead role in the on-site delivery and reporting of these
services in a wide range of applications and environments. Training will be provided for the
application of our bespoke advanced ultrasonic inspection services.

Responsibilities

You'll be supporting the project delivery teams with the following tasks:

  • Preparation of advanced ultrasonic equipment as required for projects

  • Developing work packs for advanced ultrasonic projects, including on-site
    QHSE elements

  • As required, supporting the project bidding team by reviewing relevant incoming
    work requests from a technical perspective and providing feedback to the bid
    team on the delivery approach for such projects

  • Undertaking on-site advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) campaigns with
    a focus on the following:

    • Managing client relations on site in a professional manner

    • Setting up and calibrating all inspection equipment used on the project

    • Performing NDT activities in line with the work pack in a safe and efficient
      manner

    • Applying testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications

    • Managing on-site risks and issues associated with project performance

    • Interpreting and evaluating inspection results

    • Preparation of client inspection reports

    • Reviewing and approving client inspection reports

    • Working with the advanced NDT team lead (ultrasonic) to evaluate the latest
      NDT systems and technologies available for delivery of advanced ultrasonic
      services

    • As required, mentoring and training NDT personnel in the method(s) in which
      certified

    • Follow and enforce the Company required safe work practices and procedures
      at all times

    • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, professionalism, and promote
      a positive customer service attitude internally and externally

Person Specification

To be eligible for this role it is desirable that you have the following job knowledge, skills and experience: 

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role with a track record of delivering high quality
    advanced  ultrasonic NDT reports with a range of ultrasonic technologies

  • Sector experience in Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Wind Energy, Fossil Power and other
    similar process related industries 

  • PCN Level 2 certified in phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) 

  • PCN Level 2 certified in time of flight diffraction (TOFD) 

  • Knowledge of the application of advanced ultrasonic inspection methods (PAUT & TOFD)
    for challenging inspections in both carbon and stainless steels (e.g. inspection of stress
    corrosion cracking)

  • PCN Level 2 certified in ultrasonic testing (3.1, 3.2, 3.7, 3.8 and 3.9)

  • PCN Level 2 certified in conventional NDT techniques including dye penetrant and
    magnetic particle inspection

  • A good general knowledge of all commonly used NDT methods, including their limitations 

  • Certified to a minimum IRATA Level 1 rope access with demonstrable experience of
    performing NDT activities at height 

  • Holds current offshore safety/survival certifications (e.g. BOSIET/MIST etc)

  • Demonstrable experience in understanding and working with pre-prepared work packs

  • Good problem-solving skills and an ability to work to tight deadlines

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of people management skills

  • Dynamic, self-motivated outgoing personality who is comfortable juggling priorities and
    mucking in with the team

  • Resilient and positive, able to deal with the requirements of an evolving organisation.

  • Be both a team player and a self-starting solo performer

  • Strong communication skills, both internally and externally

  • Coaching leadership style to develop a strong and capable team 

  • Able to work flexibly when required

  • Clean valid driving licence

  • Ability to travel within the UK and overseas where required

  • Working knowledge of / or qualified in advanced electromagnetic techniques would
    be a distinct advantage.
