Investigations into the cause of the fatal crash of American Airlines
Flight 587 which had previously centered on the planes engines are
now looking closely at the broken tail section.

A combination of severe wake vortex from a Boeing 747 which took
off in front of the Airbus, together with structural weakness may have
caused the tail section to break off.

The tail section was found a half-mile away from the main crash site.

American Airlines are currently inspecting the tail sections of their
entire Airbus fleet.  A move which will be followed by other airlines.

The Website of the Aviation Week magazine has more detailed
coverage of these latest events.
